The leader of the European People’s Party in the European Parliament Manfred Weber, during his short stay in Greece, selects to visit on Tuesday the 20th of June, the Greek company, Theon Sensors. Theon Sensors, is a world leading company in man portable night vision and thermal systems and has in place an extensive international network of customers and business partners having sold its products in more than 40 countries. The main production line facilities are located, in Koropi, Attica. Mr. Weber was welcomed by Mr. Christian Hadjiminas, the founder and CEO of Theon Sensors and Vice President of the Hellenic Entrepreneurs Association (EENE) and by
Mr. Vassilis Apostolopoulos, the CEO of the Athens Medical Group and President of the EENE.
Mr. Weber has been informed about the technological achievements that made Theon Sensors a front runner on a global scale, in its industry. Mr. Hadjiminas pointed out the importance of investing in research, innovation and being predominant export oriented as main approach to overcome the impact of the economic crisis in a country like Greece. He described the challenges the Greek companies are currently facing (taxation & lack of bank financing) but mainly focused on the opportunities that actually will determine the country’s economic future.
Mr. Hadjiminas, while guiding Mr. Weber to the Theon facilities underlined the importance of a creative cooperation between Greece and Germany in the field of research and production of new technologies while also, stressing that European Union must become a truly open market for all its members.
Mr. Apostolopoulos expressed the need for Greek Entrepreneurs to overcome existing barriers, join forces – where possible- and develop opportunities on a European level. Mr. Apostolopoulos and Mr. Hadjiminas stressed the need to reduce taxes on legal entities and suggested specific ways to achieve this.
Mr. Weber thanked for the detailed presentation and stated that he is glad to see a remarkable Greek company that develops and exports so high-tech products. He pointed out that these innovating activities are a major asset for Europe.
Along with Mr. Weber the visit was attended by Martin Kamp, Secretary General of the EPP Group, Mercedes Alvar Gonzalez, Head of Cabinet of the EPP Group and Christian Huegel, Spokesperson of the Chairman of the EPP Group.
